It's very sad to me that a city like Chicago has an annual murder rate of 500+ and people are alarmed. Jamaica on the other hand has roughly the same population as the city of Chicago and if the murder rate was at 500+ per year we would be celebrating.

Body counts are not the point. The point is that if you and I were to live beside each other, simply having black skin, does not make me want to break into your house and kill you anymore than your white skin makes you more likely to burn both our houses down because you have a meth lab in your basement. I'm trying to have you look at a complex societal problem before coming to a halt, as it were, once you determine skin color.

If you feel that all you need to know in order to understand crime and those who commit crime is skin color then we don't have much more to say to each other.

Yes, I understand. I moved from an urban environment(predominately white) because of escalating crime caused by section eight housing forced on the community (predominately black), to an rural environment, and moved across the street from a family that just happened to be black. After speaking with them, it was obvious they were trying to escape the same chaos and dangers of urban living that I was.

I do get your point, but I can't ignore the obvious...and I also understand that poverty and crime go hand and hand. Facts are facts...and that is what I'm posting. Again, I not trying to offend anyone, and I'm not an outsider looking in. Just in case you don't know, I've spent the last 33yrs as a Balto. City Firefighter.
The firehouses in Balto. are right in the middle of the neighborhoods. I work 10hr days and 14 hr nights (swingshift) and spend as much time at work as I do in my own home...I'm simply giving an honest perspective from my view point, of course it's an opinionated view point...and I'm sorry, but I won't sugar coat things.

I'd rather keep an open dialogue, but I understand some issues are tough to discuss.

I second that...and this is what I've been screaming about on this site for some time now. Why is this being ignored? The "powers that be" are scared to offend the black community and admit there is a problem.
The problem must be faced before it can be addressed.

Yep, I don't get it... Bill Cosby was demonized for speaking the truth. It's the elephant in the room that everyone ignores as the bodies pile up in the morgue.

Can you imagine the coverage by the press if the "flu" was killing people at this rate every year?...If this was the case, the feds would have the Center for disease control working 24 hrs 7days and they would be throwing a slew of money at it, to stop it. But since it's just your usual slaughter of inner city dwellers, that are just killing each other...why bother?

Rich, check the stats for gun deaths in all fifty states. Deduct the gun deaths from each state where the victims were killed in a big city with a minority population...than check the stats again.

My money is on the "lame telepromter speech about gun control"...that way he won't have to address the truth.
